III. Special Topic
Student Activity Fee
CSA is advocating a student activity fee. Currently CSA only receives $200,000.00 to fund student organizations and activities. Briggs has consulted the other student government leaders, the Board of Trustees and the Vice-president for Student Affairs, all of which are interested in such a fee. Initial talks have suggested $15.00 per quarter, which would generate approximately two million dollars annually. This is half of what the benchmark amount is for other comparable universities. The money would fund operation costs, travel events, discounted for use of university property, and other student organization needs.
A major concern expressed by the delegates is the additional fees that are expected in the coming year, including the Larkins fee (starts 2004) and the possible Ohio Union fee, and how they will afford these fees. Briggs comments that it will be a fee like any other but there is hope that in the near future departments will start to pick up fees for paid graduate students.
