RESOLUTION 0203-AU-012
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ELIMINATION OF NON-RESIDENT STATE SHARE OF INSTRUCTION SUBSIDY
Author: Michael D. Triplett II (triplett.20@osu.edu)
Sponsor: Legislative Affairs Committee
Passed October 25, 2002
WHEREAS the Ohio House Select Committee on Ohio's System of Higher Education is considering the elimination of State Share of Instruction funding for non-resident graduate and professional students; and
WHEREAS the elimination of the non-resident State Share of Instruction subsidy would weaken Ohio’s universities by reducing the quality of undergraduate instruction and graduate student generated research; and,
WHEREAS the elimination of the non-resident State Share of Instruction subsidy would undermine Ohio’s economic development by reducing the value of university generated intellectual property and the skill level of university graduates; and
WHEREAS the elimination of the non-resident State Share of Instruction subsidy would undermine United States foreign policy by reducing the exportation of democratic ideals throughout the world,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students strongly opposes the elimination of the non-resident State Share of Instruction subsidy by the State of Ohio.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislative Affairs Committee and its chair advocate against the elimination or reduction of non-resident graduate student State Share of Instruction funding.
