A Resolution Calling for Adequate Support of Higher Education

WHEREAS higher education is deemed critical to the economic growth of Ohio; and
WHEREAS Ohio already lags the nation in educational attainment; and
WHEREAS the State of Ohio is in a severe budget crisis; and
WHEREAS Governor Bob Taft has threatened to cut support for higher education; and
WHEREAS state share of instruction levels consistently have been cut when indexed to inflation; and
WHEREAS there is much uncertainty as to what support higher education will receive in the coming biennial budget,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students supports and encourages increased support for higher education; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislative Affairs Committee and its chair advocate on behalf of graduate students to achieve higher funding for The Ohio State University.
