Passed March 7, 2003
WHEREAS student organizations at The Ohio State University are under-funded; and
WHEREAS there is even less funding for campus-wide activities such as concerts, comedy acts, speakers, et cetera; and
WHEREAS the Council of Graduate Students has limited resources to serve effectively its constituents; and
WHEREAS other institutions comparable to The Ohio State University require that all students pay a student activity fee; and
WHEREAS the Student Activity Fee being proposed by the student leadership will add a $15 charge to each full-time student’s bill each quarter; and
WHEREAS the more than $2 million in estimated revenue from the Student Activity Fee will be proportionally allocated to the student organizations; and
WHEREAS the revenue from the Student Activity Fee will give the Council of Graduate Students more funds to serve graduate students and improve the graduate student experience; and
WHEREAS the fee will provide educational and entertainment opportunities to graduate students that will positively improve their experience as a student of The Ohio State University; and
WHEREAS the Student Activity Fee will directly and positively impact graduate students,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students support the institution of a quarterly $15 Student Activity Fee, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students request that the University cover the activity fee for funded graduate students, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, even though the leadership of the Council is actively campaigning to have the fee paid for funded graduate students by their employing units, the Council of Graduate Students support this fee regardless of whether this fee is ultimately covered by the University.
