AN ACT AMENDING THE BYLAWS ON DELEGATE TERM OF SERVICE

Section 1. The purpose of this act is to amend the CGS Bylaws regarding delegate term of service in order to promote full representation of delegates to the Council.

Section 2. The Council’s Bylaws shall be amended as follows:

Article I - Membership

Section I.1-I.6 Unchanged

Section I.7: TermTerm of Service The term of office for each delegate shall consist of four consecutive academic quarters beginning with the fall quarter. Delegates should be selected by their respective units of representation in the spring quarter and immediately begin serving as non-voting delegates-elect until fall quarter. Delegates filling a vacancy shall take office immediately. Programs or delegates wishing to shorten their terms shall notify the Council office in writing.

I.7.A. Delegates shall be elected in spring quarter for a term of service consisting of four consecutive quarters beginning in the following autumn quarter.

I.7.B. If a current delegate seat is vacant as of the first meeting of spring quarter, the new delegate-elect shall in addition complete the remainder of the current term as a voting member of the Council.

I.7.C. Delegates filling a vacancy shall take office immediately.

I.7.D. All delegates-elect will serve as non-voting members of the Council until their term of service begins (per I.7.A).

Section 3. These changes will take effect immediately upon approval at a regular meeting of the Council of Graduate Students.
