A Resolution on Compensation and Benefits for Funded Graduate Students at Ohio State

WHEREAS the Council of Graduate Students has advocated for appropriately compensating funded graduate students at Ohio State, passing resolutions on health care subsidy and covering graduate student educational fees; and
WHEREAS the Council of Graduate Students has stated its position on the minimum stipend, health care subsidy, covering graduate student fees, and creating a university-wide standard letter of offer; and
WHEREAS the Council of Graduate Students has made great progress in addressing these concerns with the University administration; and
WHEREAS Council of Graduate Students has never approved a formal resolution linking together all the related issues of compensation and benefits for funded graduate students at Ohio State; and
WHEREAS in the absence of a recognized union for graduate associates at Ohio State, the Council of Graduate Students is the only advocate for funded graduate students at Ohio State,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students calls upon the University administration to raise the minimum stipend from $900/month to $1,200/month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students calls upon the University administration to subsidize 100% of the OSU single student comprehensive health insurance plan plus 50% of the additional cost for those funded graduate students who also carry dependent health insurance; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students calls upon the University administration to cover all educational and activity fees for funded graduate students including technology fees, activity fees, recreational facility fees, union fees, et cetera (this list is meant to be exemplary and not inclusive); and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students calls the University administration to phase in these additions to funded graduate students' compensation and benefits over the next five years; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students calls upon the Executive Vice President and Provost of the University to commit in writing to a plan to implement these additions to funded graduate students' compensation and benefits by 15 April 2004; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students
actively advocate for these benefits, charging the President of the
Council of Graduate Students to communicate to the Ohio State
University President, the Executive Vice President and Provost, the
Senior Vice President for Business and Finance, the Vice President for
Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President for Human Resources, the
Dean of the Graduate School, and all other appropriate groups the
Council's position on this matter as established by this resolution.
