A Resolution Commending the University for Including Gender Identity in the Nondiscrimination Clause

WHEREAS the Council of Graduate Students passed resolution 0102-SP-027 in spring of 2002 calling upon the "University administration to amend the Human Resources Policy No. 1.10 Nondiscrimination/Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action to include gender identity"; and

WHEREAS the Office of Human Resources has announced revisions, effective December 2003, to the nondiscrimination policy that include gender identity in the list of protected categories; and

WHEREAS the inclusion of gender identity in the nondiscrimination policy helps to create a more inclusive and safer environment for gender-variant members of the Ohio State community,

THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students commends the University for including gender identity in the nondiscrimination policy; and

LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students extends its thanks to the individuals who worked together to draft this policy: Eunice Hornsby, Olga Esquivel-Gonzalez, and Carmeen Yarbrough from the Office of Human Resources; Kim Shumate from Legal Affairs; Audeen Fentiman from the College of Engineering; and Josh Stulberg from the Moritz College of Law; and

LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students extends its special thanks to Larry Lewellen, Associate Vice President for Human Resources, whose leadership on issues of diversity in the workplace are making Ohio State a better, more inclusive environment.
