A Resolution Calling Upon the University to Better Inform Graduate Assistants of their Pay Schedule Options

WHEREAS a large number of graduate assistants at The Ohio State University have 9-month appointments that begin in mid-September and end in mid-June; and
WHEREAS most graduate assistants at the University do not receive their first paychecks until the end of October; and
WHEREAS the quality of life for graduate assistants at The Ohio State University could be negatively affected by a delayed pay schedule; and
WHEREAS the Office of Human Resources currently offers the option of receiving half a paycheck on September 30 and half a paycheck on June 30; and
WHEREAS taking advantage of this option would positively impact the quality of life for many graduate assistants at the University; and
WHEREAS the Office of Human Resources may not have effectively communicated to graduate assistants their pay schedule options; and
WHEREAS many departments are also seemingly unaware of the policy,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students calls upon the University to actively publicize to its graduate assistants and to individual departments the pay schedule options available; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of Graduate Students assist the University in communicating this information to graduate assistants.
