A Resolution to Improve Pedestrian Safety: Bike Lanes.

WHEREAS Ohio State University is a large campus with limited vehicle parking; and
WHEREAS traveling between classes is difficult due to the elimination of bus lines, such as the Core Circulator; and
WHEREAS many students walk and cycle to classes, the Lennox Center and other places in the University District and presumably, in the future, to the Gateway Complex; and
WHEREAS cyclists are in danger of being injured by cars on roads; and
WHEREAS pedestrians are in danger of being injured by cyclists on sidewalks; and
WHEREAS there is no appropriate place for cyclists on or near OSU campus; and
WHEREAS students, graduate employees, staff, and faculty need to be safe to effectively learn, teach, research and mentor as OSU’s Academic Plan outlines; and
WHEREAS many cities and other benchmark universities have bicycle lanes on campus and in the surrounding areas,
THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED that bicycle lanes be immediately designated on roads where space permits and; and
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED that bicycle lanes be designated where pedestrian safety is in danger on or near campus, such as near the Lennox Center; and
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED that bicycle lanes be planned in future construction projects on campus and in the surrounding area, such as the Ohio Union Restoration and the Gateway Complex.
