An Act Establishing the 2005-06 Standing Committees

Section 1. The purpose of this act is to set the 2005-06 Standing Committees of the Council of Graduate Students, in accordance with Article V, Section 2 of the CGS Bylaws.
Section 2. In addition to the Executive Committee (established by Article VI, Section 1 of the CGS Constitution and Article V, Section 1 of the CGS Bylaws), the Organization and Elections Committee (established by Article V, Section 2 of the CGS Bylaws), and the Ray Award Committee (established by Article VI, Section 3 of the CGS Constitution), the 2005-06 Standing Committees of the Council of Graduate Students will be:
- ACADEMIC and STUDENT AFFAIRS: shall oversee the academic and student affairs of graduate students and will work closely with the Graduate School and its appropriate councils and commitees; Council on Academic Affairs (CAA) and its subcommittees; Council on Student Affairs (CSA) and its subcommittees; and the Graduate Compensation and Benefits Committee (GCBC) and its subcommittees; and all other councils, committees, and individuals deemed appropriate by the President. The committee shall sponsor at least one event relating to academic affairs and one event relating to student affairs. The Chair shall provide a written report on the committee's activities to the Council on a monthly basis.
- DIVERSITY: shall work with the appropriate University offices, councils, committees and individuals to help promote and to enhance a diverse graduate student population. The committee shall plan and promote at least one diversity activity in 2005-06. The Chair shall provide a written report on the commitee's activities to the Council on a monthly basis.
- EVENTS: shall plan and coordinate the Council's Fall and Spring picnics, plan and coordinate events sponsored by CGS, and help plan and coordinate at least two joint events with another appropriate university group or organization during 2005-06. The commitee shall work closely with the Public Relations Committee to ensure events are publicized throughout the university community. The Chair shall provide a written report on the committee's activities to the Council on a monthly basis.
- GOVERNMENT RELATIONS: shall collaborate with the University Office of Government Relations and any external body deemed appropriate by the President. This committee will educate and advocate about critical graduate student issues and concerns to local, state, and national elected officials and to all other "interested parties" so deemed by the President. At least once during 2005-06, this committee will participate in a local or national Legislative Action Day. The Chair shall provide a written report on the commitee's activities to the Council on a monthly basis.
- INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE STUDENT CONCERNS: shall be a liaison to international graduate students and work with the Office of International Affairs and any other appropriate university office or individuals. This committee will plan and promote at least one activity during 2005-06 to enhance the quality of life for the OSU international graduate student population. The Chair shall provide a written report on the commitee's activities to the Council on a monthly basis.
- OUTREACH and ENGAGEMENT: shall plan and coordinate activities that will outreach to and engage some or part of the university community. The committee shall help plan and coordinate at least one activity with one other university group or organization in 2005-06. The Chair shall provide a written report on the commitee's activities to the Council on a monthly basis.
- PUBLIC RELATIONS: shall coordinate public relations for the Council including its Standing Committees' chairs by submitting news releases and any other event notices to the University's internal media and communications offices and to all appropriate external media outlets. The Chair shall provide a written reports on the committee's activities to the Council on a monthly basis.
Section 3. This act will take effect immediately upon approval at a regular meeting of the Council of Graduate Students.
